Does Rhino Shield Prevent Water Intrusion?

A frequently asked question is “Does Rhino Shield prevent water intrusion?”

Quick answer… Yes!

We’ve tested it at the federal ASTM standard, the wind-driven rain test. What that means is they take a cinder block, they apply our coating system onto that cinder block, they shoot a 98-mile-per-hour jet of water at it for 24 hours, and it’s a pass or fail test.

Rhino Shield passes.

How does that actually work and why is it important?

When water gets through your paint, say you have some cracked paint, it then accesses your siding, and then it further damages either that stucco or wood or whatever your siding is. And that leads to a larger problem where you’re doing more repairs on the siding compared to just doing a normal paint job. Rhino Shield, our APS is going to be applied first, and that’s our primer. The proprietary primer, it bonds to the side of your home. And then our durable finish coat is then applied over it. You have these ceramic microspheres. 3m, they manufacture these microspheres, which are included in our coating, and they’re all different size balls. And what you’ll see here, they’re different sizes so that they can compress onto each other, preventing the ability of air or water to get in between the siding of your home and that coating.
